The Financial District has been created from a vision to become the definitive destination for global exchange in business, culture and life in the region. It will represent the future of the Kingdom and the principles and opportunities of its 2030 Vision.
The heart of this exciting new development is a landmark, a large public open space placed at the meeting point of a shady network of sunken streets and wadis. It is intended as a place for local workers and visitors from the City and the wider region. It will be an immersive and memorable urban landscape, dynamic and ever changing. The space will allow everyone to enjoy large spectacular events, light shows and world class performances. It will be a place where people can come together as a community, to interact and celebrate. It will also provide for individual and family experiences, quieter more reflective moments and the richness of all elements of a vibrant city life.
This design sets out to capture the spirit of this ambitious vision. It provides a wide variety of facilities and experiences, woven together to create a successful and financially sound concept that underpin a sustainable future for the project. It will become part of the collective conscious memory of the people of region, providing the place making and infrastructure for these memorable and events to take place.
The new grand central park is imagined as a dynamic space with its Vision rooted in local identity. What better place to start in the defining the concept for this space than the Al-Wāḥa, or Oasis. By design, Al Waha Park provides the environment for all people to come together and denotes a point in their journey through the Financial District. The park is intended to be a crossroads and a propulsion into the next part of ones journey and is culturally relevant for how Saudi’s imagine their role in the world’s future.
The concept for the Park has been created as a counterpoint to the angular characteristics of the the Financial District Masterplan. It shares its dynamism and provides contrast to its forms. The two ideas come together to create a dynamic place of beauty and wonder.
Al-Wāḥa Park is where residents, visitors, and daily workers find respite from the active pace of the city. Acting as the Heart of the Financial District, Al-Wāḥa Park provides access to nature, a venue for festivals celebrating the bounties of life and culture, acclaimed artist installations, and encourages wonder and exploration. VIP’s have access to global brands, children can immerse themselves in dynamic play and learning environments, families will picnic on fresh grass, and all can dine overlooking a spectacular park setting. As a visitor immersed within the Wadis, the experience builds as one moves toward dynamic destinations within Al-Wāḥa Park.
